day 2
On our second day we visited the archaeological excavation Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka‘s first capital. This city, founded 400 B.C., was the most important religious and political center of Sri Lanka for more than 1300 years.
The main point in this ancient city is the holy Bodhi-Tree, a layer of the poplar tree in India. Under that tree Siddhartha Gautama found his epiphany and became Buddha. Round this center lots of Buddhist convents, Stupas and temples were built.
These ruins have being investigated and excavated for more than 100 years.
It was a great day because we got in touch with the Buddhism for the first time.
